BOSlife: Obama’s Inauguration
I arrived in DC’s Ronald Regan International Airport the morning of the of the 18th and it was quite cold….COLD!!!!! My comrade in arms, Mr. Rashad greeted and whisked me into chocolate city. We journeyed to the world-famous “Florida Ave Grill”. The vibe in the grill was busy and festive. The walls were covered with famous African and Anglo Americans of all professions. The Morning of the election, we (Rashad and Family) caught the DC Metro from Maryland to DC’’s Chinatown.
The cold was omni present!!!!! We made our way to the parade route, passing a colorful mix of official and unofficial Obama merchandise vendors. I was amazed at all the items with the President Elect image affixed. I eventually joined the fray and purchased a few items. Upon reaching the entrance for the route, every guest had to go through the metal detector and be searched. Upon reaching the route I ventured away from my host and caught a surprise glimpse of President Elect Obama on 12th & Pennsylvania Ave.
As Obama’s motorcade approached, the atmosphere was that of a prep rally and stadium concert in one. We were all chanting “OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA…. As President Obama appeared, I was awe struck as He & the 1st Lady were walking the route. Both were aglow with excitement. The President Elect had the stride of his post “Commander in Chief”. In route home, I mentally revisited the weekend(s) events and gave thanks for the opportunity to attend and be a living part of history. It was definitely a sight and event to behold & remember.
